Privacy Policy

The short version

For many PDFGrover tools, your file stays in your browser and never leaves your device. Other tools — plus the large-file fallback paths for hybrid tools — upload to our server, where files are handled in an isolated temporary directory and deleted within the hour. We do not create accounts, do not profile you, and do not use your files for any purpose other than producing the output you requested.

1. What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy describes how PDFGrover (“we”, “the Service”) handles information when you use our PDF tools at pdfgrover.com and associated sub-domains.

2. Files you process

Different tools have different architectures. Some run entirely in your browser and never upload your file; others require server-side processing because the underlying engines can't run in a browser. The exact breakdown is below.

Browser-side tools — your file never leaves your device

These tools are implemented in JavaScript using in-browser PDF libraries and run entirely in your browser. Your PDF is read, processed, and the output file is generated locally. No upload, no server copy, no retention — there is nothing for us to retain, because the bytes never reach our infrastructure. You can verify this by opening your browser's DevTools → Network tab: no upload request is made for the file itself.

Hybrid tools — browser-side by default, server fallback for large files

These tools attempt browser-side processing first and only upload to our server when the file is too large for the browser to handle efficiently. The threshold varies per tool (typically around 30–100 MB or 500–5000 pages). For the common case, your file stays on your device. When a server fallback triggers, the file follows the server-side retention policy described below.

  • Merge PDF
  • Split PDF
  • Sign PDF
  • Edit PDF
  • Add watermark
  • Add page numbers
  • JPG to PDF
  • PNG to PDF
  • PDF to JPG
  • PDF to PNG

Server-side tools — file is uploaded to our server

These tools require processing engines that only run on a server. Your file is uploaded over HTTPS to a scoped temporary directory on our server, processed, returned to you, and deleted within one hour by our background cleanup service. We do not retain, index, back up, or read the contents. We do not use your file for model training, analytics, or any purpose other than producing the output you asked for.

This classification is accurate as of the date at the top of this page. If we change a tool's architecture, we will update this list. If the distinction matters for your specific use case, verify empirically via DevTools → Network before uploading sensitive content.

3. Accounts and sign-up

We do not require accounts. There is no sign-up flow, no email collection, and no user profile associated with your activity.

4. Analytics and cookies

We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic (pages visited, browser version, approximate country) so we can improve the Service. We do not use third-party tracking cookies for advertising or cross-site profiling. Functional cookies (such as your dark-mode preference) are stored in your browser’s local storage and never sent to our server.

If we ever introduce ads, we will update this policy and disclose the specific ad provider and what data it receives.

5. Server logs

Our server produces standard web logs (timestamp, IP address, URL path, browser user agent, response code). These logs are used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention. They are retained for a limited period and are not sold or shared.

5a. Usage analytics

When you run a tool on PDFGrover, we record the tool name, timestamp, approximate country (derived from your IP), the IP address itself, your browser user agent, input file size, and processing duration. We use this to measure tool popularity, catch performance regressions, and detect abuse. IP addresses are retained for up to 90 days and then removed or truncated. We do not sell, share, or link this data to any external identity, and we do not store or inspect your file contents.

6. Third-party services

The Service is hosted on our own server. We do not share file contents or user behavior with third parties. Font files are loaded from Google Fonts; Google may log the font request (IP, user agent) but does not receive any of your document content.

7. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Your rights

Because we do not hold accounts or persistent personal data, most data requests (export, deletion) do not apply. If you believe we are holding specific information about you, contact us and we will investigate.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
